Where Messy Brilliance Meets Practical Wisdom
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking, “Why didn’t anyone teach me how to do this?”—this space is for you.
Whether you’re parenting a neurodivergent teen, homeschooling with zero bandwidth, navigating ADHD or autism, unpacking trauma, or just trying to figure out how to adult when the manual never showed up—The Village Council is here to hold space, offer insight, and remind you that you’re not alone.
I’m Scarlett—creative strategist, curriculum designer, psychology and criminal justice student, and co-parent in a vibrant, neurodivergent household. I’ve lived through the chaos, studied the systems, and built tools that honor complexity. This column is a place where research meets lived experience, and where questions don’t have to be polished to be valid.
College is important but is also a bit overrated… How many times have you saved two grand by consulting YouTube How-To videos? Even therapy can be replaced with AI nowadays… (not really! therapy is important!)
Look just being completely transparent… My Nanny (grandmother raised me) died when I was 14. My mom died when I was 18. So, I can’t just call mom when I have a question…
Sometimes, we just need to ask a question without worrying about being laughed at or made to feel incompetent or dumb. And yeah, you could just google it yourself… but seriously, how many times have you googled “what is this rash” and discovered you had brain cancer?! Needless to say, google isn’t ALWAYS reliable or neurodivergent friendly!
Sometimes we just need a real person to answer our real questions…

BONUS IDEA – I have 5 children, ages 9, 12, 13, 15, & 15. They have been through homeschool and public school, and have a lot of their own life experience! I would like to include a column where they answer questions for other kids their age!
